James Potter

The Basics
Name: James Potter
Bloodline: Pureblood
Gender: Male
House: Gryffindor
Wand: Mahogany, 11", pliable (excellent for transfiguration)
Special Items: The Marauders map, made by him and the other Marauders and his invisibility cloak.
Talents: Quidditch (chaser), transfiguration and rule breaking.
Animagus: A stag (But shh... It's a secret!)

Appearance
James has black, untidy hair. it seems to always stick up at the back. This probably has to do with his habit of running his hand through his hair, which he does to make it look like he's just gotten of a broom. He also does it when he's nervous or embaressed or well, just whever really, but extra when he's nervous. His hazel eyes are framed by glasses and he is tall and thin. (PB Milo Ventimiglia, cartoon PB ♥Prince Eric♥)

Personality
James is an arrogant, self-important, cocky prat who can be very cruel at times. Of course, being a Gryffindor, he is also very brave and would do anything for the people he loves. He is very bold and doesn't seem to mind getting in trouble. He enjoys pulling pranks and making fun of people. Although he seems very bold and confident, deep down he is very dependant on his friends and would be lost without them. He also secretely thinks he is too immature.

History
James started his life as the only son of an extremely respectable and very wealthy Pureblood family. He lived in Iwerneminster, a relatively small village in Dorset with a mixture of magical and non-magical inhabitants. His neighbour and oldest friend was, Greta Catchlove, his Yearmate at Hogwarts (a Ravenclaw). James' parents are older, very kind, unassuming wizards and were very proud of their son's many achievements at Hogwarts. They're well aware of the trouble James gets into there, too (James' reply to the Professors or Prefects when they try and give him Detention is normally something along the lines of, "Sorry, the next free evening I have is in about four months' time. Can you fit me in then?". It's thought at the time that he's just being cheeky-- and he is-- however, it's often true) but although his mother, Dorothy (she's a Pureblood witch from the Denning family, another extremely prominent wizarding family of the time), sometimes becomes exasperated with him, his father, Thomas would never admit this out loud, as (according to James' mother) he's supposed to be setting a good example to James. But James loves his family life, and, although he'd probably never admit this either, is extremely fond of both his parents.

His Years at Hogwarts were shaped by brilliance, and started off by picking out brilliant-minded wizards to be his best friends. Most noticeably, Sirius Black, who after getting a small insight into the home life, made James realise how lucky he was. He also made great friends with Remus Lupin (who he soon found out was a werewolf) and the somewhat less talented Peter Pettigrew. Together the four, all Gryffindors, became known as The Marauders, and their exploits would be known throughout history.

Though James almost instantly fell in...something for the pretty Lily Evans, he hid his feelings at first in a coat of armour made of arrogance and philandering (as much as a young teen could philander). In his 4th year, James and Sirius got into loads of trouble, and James always met Detention with derision and mocking laughter. However alone, he would escape to the Quidditch pitch at night and proceed in kicking holes in the earth as he mulled over his problems.

At the end of that year there was a school dance. James could not muster the courage to ask Lily to go with him, so he went to the dance with Greta Catchlove (only as friends, for they were never lovers and violently balked at the idea, even though it was only natural to speculate. ;P). Much to the ribbing of his friend Sirius Black. (Lily herself went with Caradoc Dearborn... as friends).

During the holiday break, James went out with a girl named Rose Kelly, a Muggle girl from his town. They had a torrid but brief affair, but his friends would see it as a clue towards his motive. Also during the holidays, Sirius Black would, as usual, spend the time at his home. He supported his friend when he dueled Barty Crouch Jr. in Knockturn Alley, and laughed as his friend tortured the young man after his victory.

The rest of the Summer was relatively uneventful (aside from a small stint at an attempt to train, with the help of his friend Marlene McKinnon, his pet kitty to attack Bellatrix Black - as well as helping Greta feed Sirius a rotten cake), and James returned to Hogwarts to see many of his friends become Prefects, including Greta Catchlove and Remus Lupin.

His 16th birthday came soon later, and he got the gift of the century: a real Invisibility Cloak. Of course, James and his friends were thrilled, and would soon put this to good use. For James and his Marauder buddies had recently become Animagi to support their friend Remus during his transformations, and now they were going to use their powers to further their mischief.

During his 5th year, two feelings increased in their severity: his attraction toward Lily Evans, and his hatred for Severus Snape (the feeling was mutual).

On Boxing Day, his family held a party, which was attended to by all of his male and female friends. There he and Sirius pranked the girls using Sirius' ability as an Animagus to scare the pants off of them. He was also invited to a Slughorn New Years party, attended to by many friends and some enemies. For Christmas James landed himself with an Irish Wolfhound puppy and went to his friend's advice to name him. But the fun wouldn't last.

His baby was dating another man! Quirinius Quirrel of Hufflepuff, of all people! James was devastated.

After the break came the Dueling Tournament. James entered and did not impress people with his first match against Sirius Black, which turned out to be a joke match that was planned with James' win from the beginning. However, he put all doubt away when he defeated Quirinius Quirrel, Remus Lupin (in a good-natured but very real duel) and finally, Alice Harper to win the championship! His prize? A trip to France with anyone and a chaperon. He chose Lily, of course. Unfortunately for both of them, Wormtail came along for the ride in rat form. =)

But still, she didn't warm up to him, but cracks were beginning to appear across that cool veneer.

At the end of his 5th Year, James had a career assessment with Professor McGonagall, who after her patience was much tried by the young man, finally suggested Aurorship.

Later, during OWLs, James and Sirius took out their frustrations on Snape in an utterly humiliating fashion, cursing him, lifting him up by his leg and depanting him in front of the student body. That solidified their reputation of students (bullies) not to be messed with, but it didn't do anything to endear James to Lily Evans.

During the Year-ending Costume Ball, James, along with Sirius, went as D'Artagnan and Porthos. They came to control the ball, but James was defeated and unpantsed by the strange Scarlet Pimpernel. Who was this masked man and would he ever find out? Only history will tell. However, it wasn't all fun and games. At the end of the ball he found himself the victim of a jinx that put the word "CALLOW" (a word representing the worst of what he thought of himself) on his head for a few good weeks.

That Summer, Sirius came to live with him on a permanent basis, much to James' delight.

The Summer was otherwise uneventful, save for another duel between a friend (Vance) and an enemy (Rosier). 6th year started out with a bang with the announcement of the Golden Comb Trials! James was pumped, of course, convinced that he and his friends would be representing Gryffindor House. However, a vicious prank against Severus Snape at Hogsmeade had him disqualified from the Trials by Albus Dumbledore! It was the worst punishment he could imagine, being left out while his friends and Lily went to Germany to compete.

This was when James started to change his ways, ever so slightly.
James tried to change his ways. He began to get less detentions and put more effort into his work. He tried to act less arrogant and egotistical, but he couldn't help it most of the time, it was just how he was. He'd like to have been able to say he began to prank and break rules a lot less too, but really, he was just a lot more careful about not getting caught.

Of course, James didn't change completely. He still enjoyed a good joke, still broke rules often and still got detentions (when you get as many as James used to, less is still a fair few), but it seemed that, in the eyes of the teachers, that James had changed enough to award him the position of Head Boy in his seventh year, along side Lily Evans, as head girl. This was great. Not only could he and his friends get away with more (James was a little lenient when it came to himself and his friends) it also meant that he got to spend a fair amount of extra time with Lily. It seemed to take Lily a little while to warm up to this, but eventually James and her began to get on really well. Well enough for her to actually accept one of James' requests for a date.

That was a great moment for James, he'd been waiting for years to be able to go on a proper date with Lily, and finally, he could. They dated for the rest of the school year and ended up engaged. They married very soon after leaving Hogwarts and have been married ever since.
