I FINALLY saw Tangled today. Although, it's not really FINALLY because it only came out yesterday in Australia, but it's been out elsewhere for ages and I've been wanting to see it for a long time so it feels like I've been waiting to see it for a long time. Anyway, I LOVED it so much. Seriously, there was like no part of the movie that I didn't like and I just couldn't stop smiling after I saw it. Which I wasn't expecting because generally, I don't like the 3Dish Disney movies that much. And by 3Dish I mean where they try and make the people look more real rather than flat. The exception to this is the Toy Story movies which I also love (especially the 3rd one. omg that was such a good movie too) but they're Disney-Pixar so that doesn't count. Or something. Anyway, I was so excited about The Princess and the Frog because it was in old style, and while I loved that movie too, this was just better, despite the newer style of animation and whatever.

What I think I liked about this movie was that it reminded me of SO many other Disney movies. Which may seem likes it's unoriginal or something but I like being reminded of old Disney movies! Like the chameleon (who was so cool) reminded me of the racoon and hummingbird in Pocohontas and the execution bit reminded me of that too. And Eugine was sort of like an Aladdin/Naveen/Thomas O'Malley character but totally his own character too. And Rapunzel's longing to get out of the tower was like Belle/Ariel and the evil mother person even looked a bit like the wicked step mother in Snow White and some parts where even Shrek-like and the personified horse reminded me of the horse in Beauty and the Beast, despite these two horses having WAY different personalities. Oh! and the bar scene in the Fluffy Duckling or whatever it was called, reminded me of the scene where they sing Gaston. And of course, the music. Alan Menken is so much love.

Anyway! Story wise, I liked the messages or whatever you call them. Disney movies are always good like that, even if a bit cheesy. I liked the whole having a dream thing and that when achieve a dream, life doesn't stop and become perfect, you just find a new dream. And when Rapunzel was scared before she saw the lanterns because she was worried it wouldn't live up to her expectations. Oh, and the floating on the water in a boat and almost kissing was very Eric and Ariel. The saucepan thing was great too. It was a nice, unexpected weapon. I also actually though Eugine was going to die! When I went and saw Princess and the Frog, my friend was shocked that the firefly died. She was like "it's a Disney movie, bad things don't happen in Disney movies!!" But that's so not true, bad things OFTEN happen in Disney movies. Like Mufasa dying. Or what about Bambi? I found that movie so sad that I've only ever seen it once. So I didn't think it was unrealistic for Eugine to die. I was shocked when he cut off her hair though, I was not expecting that. But back to him dying. I was so upset that he was dead and then I remembered in the real story of Rapunzel, where she goes blind after falling into thistles or whatever, she has magical healing tears. So then I was like she can cry and heal him!! But then it took her ages to cry and I was like I'm crying!! Why can you not cry??? But then she did and it was all okay and the family reunion was so sweet. I also cried on her birthday when the King came into the room looking so upset, just before the released the lanterns.I also liked that while the "mother" person was sort of evil, I couldn't hater her because aside from locking her in a tower and using her hairs magical powers, she had looked after Rapunzel pretty well. I also liked that Eugine freaked out about her hair being able to glow and heal things. Because that is a normal reaction! you wouldn't just be like oh cool, glowing hair. Let's keep drowning now.

It was funny, it was sad and it made me so happy. I just really liked it and so felt the need to ramble on about it. I love Disney.

OMG I loved this movie too! I love this movie way more than I thought I would, and I'm getting scarily obsessive about insisting that everybody I know go see it.

I liked all the things that you did. There were a few moments that reminded me of past Disney movies, but it felt very much like its own movie, on the whole. Rapunzel was just such a likable, infectiously joyful heroine, and I like the fact that she has Hermione teeth.

And I'm really amazed at how real the King and Queen felt, as characters, despite having no dialogue and about 2 minutes of screentime in total. I've watched it *cough* times, and I always tear up at his expression just before they release the lanterns.

Mother Gothel did tend to Rapunzel's physical needs pretty well, but what made her chilling was her casual mental and emotional abuse. The stealth insults, the constant belittling of Rapunzel couched in "teasing"...it felt more realistically villainous than a witch with a poison apple.

The only thing that bugged me was Flynn's facial hair :( Whyyy, animators, did you have to give him chin pubes?

It is so good!! I think being scarily obsessive about people seeing it is okay!

Yes! She was exremely likeable and I liked that her naivity and innocence was what helped her, like in the bar scene, it was having a dream that stopped them from killing her and Flynn.

I loved the King and Queen. I guess they really show the saying "there are no small roles, only small actors" saying is true. Even if they are cartoons. They were just great everytime they were shown.

That is true! she was very mentally abusive with all her comments about Rapunzel not knowing anything and not being good enough etc. I liked her as a villain though, it was interesting and different from a lot of other villains.

haha that is true! But I did love him anyway! and I really want to go see this movie again!

I love Tangled too! For all those reasons, and it definitely reminded me of the other Disney movies. I love that they do that!

I also love Mandy Moore and Chuck!

I love your icon! I think it's so great that they can manage to remind you of so many other movies will still being original.

I didn't realise it was Mandy Moore! But she is great.

omg, I looove Tangled

ALAN MENKEN IS SO MUCH LOVE, YES

I thought Eugene was going to die too, and ngl, I kind of wanted him to :x but I have come to terms with this ending! because my friend reminded me that it's a children's movie and they can't really do that.

I've already seen the movie twice and I hardly ever see movies twice in theaters, and I KIND OF WANT TO BUY THE SOUNDTRACK EVEN THOUGH I NEVER BUY SOUNDTRACKS

I love him so much!! I was watching the special features on my Beauty and the Beast dvd the other day and there was a whole long itnerview thing with him and it was so great.

Aww, why did you want him to die? and idk, Disney kill off people all the time. Although, not ever the romantic interest I guess. There has to be some sort of happy ending!

I want the soundtrack too!! The music was just awesome.

well I took a whole class on female mortality in literature so I'm all filled with ideas of the feminine corpse as a vehicle for male character growth, so in that moment when he's dead I was thinking about how much I enjoyed seeing that dynamic reversed, and then he came back to life and I felt robbed. & yeah, Disney doesn't exactly shy away from deaths (and there was that opening line about "this is how I died," so really his death should've been - and was, I think - pretty believable), but usually not for one of the romantic leads. and I think only bad guys ever die at the end of the movie! I'm sure that's a lie. I'm sure sidekicks have died or something. but I feel like when that happens it's usually partway through instead of at the end, idk.

also, I just really don't like character dying and coming back to life. Deathly Hallows produces a similar reaction in me (though not for the same reasons, obviously).

I suppose it's appropriate that I felt ROBBED, because he is a THIEF!

idek, this kind of thing is funny to me at 2am

Same with me! It's fine at the moment because I can sleep in as much as I want but getting my sleeping habits back to normal for early starts is going to be the worst. I think all classes should not be allowed to start until at least 12!

That makes sense! It would've been an interesting reversal if he had died. But yeah, even in all films, not just Disney, the romantic leads don't die that often. But I guess that's because happy endings are more commercial.

I think what I liked about him dying and coming back to life was that it matched with the story of Rapunzel I remember, where she has magical healing tears. Also because I don't cope so well weith the death of fictional characters :p I like characters I like to stay alive!!

I agree with you so completely!! I was a bit wary of the format and honestly, I do prefer the old school style of animation but I think it was a beautiful movie nonetheless. I agree that I loved how it felt like an old school Disney movie otherwise, but still managed to be original and stand strongly in its own right.

This movie made me feel like a little girl again and I fell in love with princess movies all over again (even though Disney doesn't want it to be considered a princess movie) so I am so glad I saw it!

Old style animation is definitely my favourite too. I wish they did more movies in their old format. But this one worked despite not being that style.

Why don't they want it considered a princess movie? It kind of is.

I agree!

And I read that they felt that the Princess and the Frog didn't do so well because the boys didn't want to see it because it was a princess movie and they wanted it to have a broader appeal. I'm not sure it really makes a difference, though.

I don't even really consider Princess and te Frog that much of a princess movie! But that does make sense. I don't think it makes a difference either though.
