I FINALLY saw Tangled today. Although, it's not really FINALLY because it only came out yesterday in Australia, but it's been out elsewhere for ages and I've been wanting to see it for a long time so it feels like I've been waiting to see it for a long time. Anyway, I LOVED it so much. Seriously, there was like no part of the movie that I didn't like and I just couldn't stop smiling after I saw it. Which I wasn't expecting because generally, I don't like the 3Dish Disney movies that much. And by 3Dish I mean where they try and make the people look more real rather than flat. The exception to this is the Toy Story movies which I also love (especially the 3rd one. omg that was such a good movie too) but they're Disney-Pixar so that doesn't count. Or something. Anyway, I was so excited about The Princess and the Frog because it was in old style, and while I loved that movie too, this was just better, despite the newer style of animation and whatever.
What I think I liked about this movie was that it reminded me of SO many other Disney movies. Which may seem likes it's unoriginal or something but I like being reminded of old Disney movies! Like the chameleon (who was so cool) reminded me of the racoon and hummingbird in Pocohontas and the execution bit reminded me of that too. And Eugine was sort of like an Aladdin/Naveen/Thomas O'Malley character but totally his own character too. And Rapunzel's longing to get out of the tower was like Belle/Ariel and the evil mother person even looked a bit like the wicked step mother in Snow White and some parts where even Shrek-like and the personified horse reminded me of the horse in Beauty and the Beast, despite these two horses having WAY different personalities. Oh! and the bar scene in the Fluffy Duckling or whatever it was called, reminded me of the scene where they sing Gaston. And of course, the music. Alan Menken is so much love.
Anyway! Story wise, I liked the messages or whatever you call them. Disney movies are always good like that, even if a bit cheesy. I liked the whole having a dream thing and that when achieve a dream, life doesn't stop and become perfect, you just find a new dream. And when Rapunzel was scared before she saw the lanterns because she was worried it wouldn't live up to her expectations. Oh, and the floating on the water in a boat and almost kissing was very Eric and Ariel. The saucepan thing was great too. It was a nice, unexpected weapon. I also actually though Eugine was going to die! When I went and saw Princess and the Frog, my friend was shocked that the firefly died. She was like "it's a Disney movie, bad things don't happen in Disney movies!!" But that's so not true, bad things OFTEN happen in Disney movies. Like Mufasa dying. Or what about Bambi? I found that movie so sad that I've only ever seen it once. So I didn't think it was unrealistic for Eugine to die. I was shocked when he cut off her hair though, I was not expecting that. But back to him dying. I was so upset that he was dead and then I remembered in the real story of Rapunzel, where she goes blind after falling into thistles or whatever, she has magical healing tears. So then I was like she can cry and heal him!! But then it took her ages to cry and I was like I'm crying!! Why can you not cry??? But then she did and it was all okay and the family reunion was so sweet. I also cried on her birthday when the King came into the room looking so upset, just before the released the lanterns.I also liked that while the "mother" person was sort of evil, I couldn't hater her because aside from locking her in a tower and using her hairs magical powers, she had looked after Rapunzel pretty well. I also liked that Eugine freaked out about her hair being able to glow and heal things. Because that is a normal reaction! you wouldn't just be like oh cool, glowing hair. Let's keep drowning now.
It was funny, it was sad and it made me so happy. I just really liked it and so felt the need to ramble on about it. I love Disney.
