I haven't even started the Softer World meme yet (I haven't home for longer than 20 minutes at any point today) but this looks fun! So"

Pick any character from any fandom of mine and I'll answer the following questions:
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase

I'm only doing TV shows because that's easier (mainly because I track them all with my sidereel account so I can just look whats on that list and list them here).

Things I am up to date with:
10 Thing I hate About You, Friends, Gilmore Girls, Glee, Gossip Girl (this can include the books too though!), Hellcats, How I Met Your Mother, IT Crowd, Pretty Little Liars, Skins (UK), Sonny with a Chance, The OC, Veronica Mars.

Not up to date with but will stil answer: Greek, Lie To Me, Laguna Beach, Merlin, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, The Office (US)

Calvin

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
I really like Calvin! I think he's generally friendly and accepting and I like the way he makes other characters think about things differently than they might have otherwise. Like Rusty's roommate, or even Rusty at times with Evan and stuff like that. But that while he's friendly and popular, he's also kind of insecure.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
I've only watched 1st season and haven't had a chance to watch the rest yet :( but so far he seems more like a supporting character than a main one. I feel he's often used as someone for other characters to talk to their problems about rather, though he does get some story lines of his own. I hope he becomes more important to the general plot as I watch more.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
I think he is relatable through his insecurities about not being accepted as who he is and the pressure he has to be something he's not (like care too much about athletics like his dad wants).
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
It's not my favourite but I do enjoy it and I really want to watch the rest of it at some point! It's lots of fun and I think there are really interesting story lines, especially with peoples relationships, not just romantically but friends and enemies and rivalries and everything and I love how it makes you change your mind about characters. Like I used to not like Frannie, Evan or Rebecca but by the end of first season they all seemed to redeem themselves.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Ship wise, not really though this could be because I've only seen the first season. I don't like that french teacher or whatever that he's seeing currently. I really love his friendship with Ashleigh though!
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Not that I can think of!
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
I'd like to think we could be friends! He seems easy to get along with and pretty relaxed, which I like.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not out of all my fandoms but he is probably one of my favourites in Greek.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
I would say that he's a cool character but I wouldn't go out of my way to make sure everyone loves him (though I don't really see why they would dislike him)
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase
I have no idea, tbh. But I'd think that he was.

Nate
[info]brontesaurus
2011-03-27 12:53 am UTC (link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
Oh, I love Nate. Most of the time, anyway. With the exception of Blair and Eric I hate all characters at some points in the show. But Nate is one of the characters in this show I actually like. I think the reason for my love of Nate is because I read the books first even though I try to consider them as seperate from the show. But compared to a lot of the other characters, Nate's a good guy and he can be so sweet.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
He should be, but he's not. He gets practically no story lines anymore except when Serena feels like being in love with him again and is practically only there for other characters to complain to/use when they need him. I'm really sick of this actually and I wish the writers would give Nate something INTERESTING.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
I think the problem with a lot of the characters in this show is that they're not relatable (e.g. Serena, mainly) but you do feel sorry for Nate when he's having all that trouble with his family. I don't know if it's really relatable but you do sympathize with him anyway.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Despite hating/disliking the majority of the character, Gossip Girl is one of my favourite fandoms. I love it.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Nate/Blair is the only Nate ship which I like, which is bad because Blair/Chuck makes more sense and I love that ship too. But I get excited whenever Nate/Blair have a scene together and whenever they're both single I hope they get back together, even if it is just briefly. I can't stand any of the other Nate ships. I think this is mostly because I hate Jenny and Vanessa and dislike Serena a lot of the time and everyone else he dates is either crazy (Juliet) or not really that interesting. Friendship wise, i love the relationship between him, Blair, Chuck and Serena. The four of them need to do stuff more often. I also love Nate and Chuck as friends, if only they'd stop stealing each other's girlfriends and fighting all the time. Nate and Dan is a pretty good friendship too.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
1. more storylines please.
2. stop being in love with Serena
3. STOP DATING CRAZY GIRLS unless they are Blair.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
I probably would only know of him in real life because although he's fairly nice and does randomly become friends with people he shouldn't (Jenny and Vanessa), I'm not too good at talking to people I don't know very well. But I'd probably have a crush on him because he's Nate Archibald.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not an all time favourite but I do love him.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
I would tell people that even if they didn't like him, at least he's pretty to look at and he's no where near as bad as some of the other characters on the show.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase
Not popular enough to give him good storylines, apparently.

I started watching GG recently, and so far Nate is the only character I consistently love, too. While I like the others half the time, I hate them half the time, you're right!! I don't think I ship him with anyone either because I HATTTTE Jenny and I don't really like Vanessa. I kind of wanted him with Serena for awhile, but I'm kind of over her, too.

Blair is my very favourite of the show and I consistently love her, but Nate is easy to love too. Most of the characters are so easy to hate! I hate Jenny so so so much but recently I started hating Vanessa more. Serena just gets boring because it's always everyone loves her all the time and she's so perfect. I hope your enjoying GG so far though, despite hating most of the characters, I love the show.

Alice
[info]brontesaurus
2011-03-27 01:03 am UTC (link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
I used to not like Alice, but the more I watch the show, the more I do. At first she just seemed like a bitch who only cared about herself but while she can be a bitch, I think she's a good person and is the type of person that once you'd befriended you know would do almost anything for you.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Yes, very. She causes a lot of drama but also helps solve a lot of things too.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
I think she's very relatable and I feel so sorry for her and the way her dad treats her. It was great when she finally stood up to her dad. She has so many insecurities, despite seeming so confident and cares what people think about her more than she'd let on.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
It's ok. I wouldn't be like OMG YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT like I am with some other shows but it's entertaining.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Probably Lewis but idk, we'll see.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
No, I like the fact that she is unapolagetic about who she is and therefore don't want to change her.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
She's kinda scary tbh so I'd try and avoid her.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
She's not an all time favourite but she kind of reminds me of Blair, who is definitely an all time favourite so that is a good thing.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
I would say that even though she seems like a bitch, she's not so bad, just keep watching.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase
I have no idea!

Joey
[info]brontesaurus
2011-03-27 01:24 am UTC (link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
Joey is hilarious. I also think he's the sweetest character in the whole show and I love that about him. He cares about his friends so deeply and he sometimes does the cutest (and sometimes funniest) things to show it.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Very. All six of the main characters are important to the plot.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
I think some of the other characters are more relatable. The stupid things he does/says, his gross food obsession and his relationships, although good for comedy, are not often very relatable. However, his emotions are relatable, like when he gets upset over things like Chandler and Kathy or his jealousy of Chandler's new roommate or his adorable crush on Rachel. A lot of the time he seems to be used for comic relief but when he is doing something emotional, he is gripping and relatable.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
SO much. It's my favourite.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
I liked him and Phoebe but I think I'm glad they never got together. I also liked his crush on Rachel but am too much of a Ross/Rachel person to want that to be a permanent thing. His friendship with Chandler is amazing though and they are pretty much a couple anyway.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
No. I think that since they show is about so many characters that the faults/shortfallings of one character is made up for by the characteristics of another character. Sometimes I think his food obsession/dumbness is exaggerated to the point where it's not really realisitc anymore though.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
I don't know if we'd get along that well and I would probably get frustrated with him at times, but I would still like to be his friend.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
I can never choose my favourite Friends character but while I love him, he's not my favourite. But because he's from Friends, he probably would make the cut of my all time favourites.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
Definitely. I'd hype up everything about Friends, I think it's a great series and Joey is part of that.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase
Yes.

Effy
[info]brontesaurus
2011-03-27 01:43 am UTC (link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
I like Effy. While not my favourite character, she's also definitely not my least favourite, of her seasons and of the show in general. While I think she can be selfish, I think she has A LOT of issues and I feel sorry for her and I like her. She also does care, even if she's not good at showing it.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Very. She pretty much keeps the group together as well as causes a LOT of the drama, especially with Freddie, Cook and JJ.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
She's not always that relatable because she's so emotionally closed and hard to get through to and I think that makes it hard to relate to her. But when she does let her emotions she and is vulnerable, I think she is relatable and emotionally gripping. I feel sorry for her a lot.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
I enjoy Skins! It's completely messed up but that's part of what makes it good. I think the emotions and relationships seem more real and less perfect than in a lot of shows and all the characters are so flawed and realistic.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Effie/Freddie, definitely. But I LOVE Cook and I do feel sorry for him and completely understand his unwillingness to let Effie go and his anger at Freddie, even though it's obvious that Freddie is better for Effie. I also love her friendship with Pandora.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
I wish she realised the effect she and her actions had on other characters.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
I doubt we'd get along and would probably avoid interacting with her.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not of all time, but I do like her.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
I would tell people to give her a chance and remember how much crap she's been through and therefore be more lenient about her actions and not hate her.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase
I think a lot of people dislike her, tbh.
